About Dr. RichDr. Rich is a child/adolescent psychiatrist with a Doctorate of Medicine (2001) and a Master of Public Health (1995) in health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from North Carolina State University (magna cum laude, 1989). After 4-1/2 years in pharmaceutical research in Research Triangle Park, NC, in 1993 she refocused her career to prevent and treat Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. Developing women's health programs in preconceptional care, family planning, and alcohol/other drug treatment in rural Native American communities, Dr. Rich moved to the Greater Washington, D.C. area in 2001 to complete a residency in psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center and a child psychiatry fellowship at Children's National Medical Center. She has served on the Executive Council of the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Society of Greater Washington (2008-2018), including President of the organization; as physician member of the Montgomery County Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Advisory Council (2012-13); on the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Board of Directors (1998-2011); and as Member in Training Trustee of the American Psychiatric Association Board of Trustees (2003-05). She is author of several articles, book chapters, and a book on prenatal alcohol exposure, The Silent Epidemic: A Child Psychiatrist's Journey beyond Death Row - Understanding, Diagnosing, and Treating ND-PAE.
